Nursing Excellence Awards

2026 Nursing Excellence Award Nominations will be open January 5 - February 16

Process:

Nominations are accepted during a 6-week period beginning mid-January each year. Current members of the Awards and Recognition Committee are not eligible to be award recipients. Nomination exemplars must have a minimum of 300 words and include specific examples in order to be eligible. Nominations are de-identified and assigned by category to committee members for review. Members may not participate in the review and selection of a category that includes a nominee that is a co-worker or other relation that poses a conflict of interest. The selection committee scores nominations and ranks them based on evidence provided within the nomination exemplar. Nursing Excellence Awards recognize University Medical Center employed team members who are in good standing.

Award recipients are announced at a presentation event during National Nurses Week each year in May.

Eligibility category definitions:

Direct care nurses: Unit based or SRO Wage, RN Clinician 2/3/4, Designated Charge Nurses, RN Navigator, RN Care Coordinator
Non-direct care nurses: Positions that require a RN license but are non-direct care and not in management/formal leadership positions. These include but are not limited to roles such as Case Manager, CNL, Clinical Program Coordinator, RN Administrative Coordinators, etc.
Nursing Management: Assistant Nurse Managers, Nurse Managers (note some specific job profile names may vary)

* Job profiles with temporary contracts, including Internal Travelers and Passport USA, are not eligible to be an award recipient.

** Employees who were previously in a temporary contracted job profile and have since converted to a permanent employment job profile may have their prior worked time considered to meet the specified eligibility requirement, barring no breaks in service.

Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the UVA Health Web Hosting and Content Management System (CMS) Platform (the "Platform"), you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms of Use, as well as all applicable UVA Health and University of Virginia policies, guidelines, and procedures.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Platform.

2. Eligibility

Use of the Platform is limited to:

UVA Health faculty, staff, and approved affiliates
University of Virginia faculty and staff
Users with an approved account provisioned by UVA Health IT Application Development or University of Virginia ITS

3. Permitted Use

The Platform is provided to support official UVA Health and University of Virginia websites, including:

Departmental or division sites
Clinical service line sites
Research group or center sites
Educational program sites
Other approved web properties

Permitted uses include:

Creating, editing, and publishing approved site content
Managing pages and assets through the CMS
Collaborating with authorized site editors and administrators

4. User Responsibilities

By using the Platform, you agree to:

Comply with UVA Health and University of Virginia policies, including Web Governance, Branding, Accessibility, Security, and Privacy guidelines
Maintain accurate and up-to-date site content
Use only approved themes, templates, modules, and plugins
Complete required training as directed
Comply with digital accessibility standards defined by the University of Virginia Digital Accessibility Coordinator
Promptly report any suspected security incidents or misuse
Maintain the confidentiality of your account credentials
Participate in reviews and testing for platform upgrades when required

5. Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Platform to:

Store or publish unapproved Protected Health Information (PHI)
Violate any applicable law, regulation, or institutional policy
Post defamatory, obscene, offensive, or inappropriate content
Distribute malware, malicious code, or spam
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other sites or systems
Interfere with or disrupt platform operations or security
Use themes or templates that do not adhere to UVA Health Brand Guidelines or University of Virginia Brand Guidelines
Override brand-approved template styling
Override existing scripting functionality provided by the platform

6. Content Ownership and Responsibility

Content you publish remains the property of UVA Health or the University of Virginia.
You are responsible for ensuring your site content is accurate, professional, compliant with applicable guidelines, and does not infringe on third-party rights.
UVA Health IT Application Development reserves the right to review, edit, remove, or restrict content that violates these Terms or institutional policies.

7. Privacy and Security

The Platform is subject to UVA Health and University of Virginia privacy, data security, and HIPAA policies.
Do not store, process, or display PHI on public-facing sites without approved security measures and prior authorization.
UVA Health IT Application Development will implement security measures, including access controls, patching, and vulnerability scanning. Users must cooperate with security requirements and reviews.

8. Platform Availability and Maintenance

UVA Health IT Application Development strives to provide reliable service but does not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
Scheduled maintenance and emergency updates may occur. Users will receive advance notice when feasible.
UVA Health IT Application Development reserves the right to modify or discontinue services with appropriate notice.

9. Account Management

User accounts are for individual use only. Sharing credentials is prohibited.
UVA Health IT Application Development may suspend or terminate accounts for misuse, security risks, or violation of these Terms.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Platform is provided ��as is�� and ��as available,�� without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

UVA Health IT Application Development does not guarantee that the Platform will be error-free or uninterrupted.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, UVA Health, the University of Virginia, and their officers, employees, and agents are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Platform.

12. Changes to Terms

UVA Health IT Application Development reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be posted or communicated to users. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

13. Termination

UVA Health IT Application Development may suspend or terminate your access to the Platform at its sole discretion for:

Violation of these Terms
Security risks
Discontinuation of the service
Other reasons as determined by institutional policy

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and applicable University of Virginia and UVA Health policies and procedures.
