Exemplary Resident/Fellow Physician Award
PROCESS:
Nominations are accepted during a 6 week period beginning mid-January each year. Nomination exemplars must be a minimum length of 300 words and include specific examples in order to be eligible. Nominations are de-identified and assigned by category to committee members for review. Members may not participate in the review and selection of a category that includes a nominee that is a co-worker or other relation that poses a conflict of interest.
Award recipients are announced at a presentation event during Nurses' Week each year in May.
Purpose:
To recognize a resident or fellow physician colleague who demonstrates collaborative patient care and problem solving.
Eligibility:
- Must be a physician in his or her residency or fellowship.
- The nominee’s manager/direct supervisor must support the nomination.
- Any Medical Center employee, or NPGO member may submit a nomination for this award.
Criteria:
One or two exemplars that support all of the behaviors listed below must be included with the submission for nominations to be considered. These examples should have occurred within the last 12 months and be written as narratives or stories consistent with the award criteria. Clinical acts must be consistent with policies and procedures outlined by UVA Health. Specific examples must be cited for nominations to be considered. They should also demonstrate the nominee’s involvement in patient care activities. Nominations will only be considered if they include specific examples. Written nominations should provide evidence to support how the nominee demonstrates the following:
- TEAMWORK: Actively seeks and respects contributions from all members of the patient care team. Displays a positive attitude, is helpful, respectful, and accountable.
- COLLABORATION: Demonstrates RN-MD collaborative practice by integrating nursing input into the patient’s plan of care.
- ALIGNMENT WITH RBC: Displays commitment to patient and family focused care. Actions contribute to a culture of patient safety and a positive patient experience.
- COMMUNICATION: Excellent communication skills that may include use of SBAR, IDEAL, whiteboards, and multidisciplinary team rounds. Includes all levels of the healthcare team, patients, and families in care planning and coordination.
