Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year

The Nursing Professional Governance Organization (NPGO) will honor one professional advanced practice provider from the University Medical Center for Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year.

Purpose of Recognition: To recognize a licensed practical nurse who demonstrates superlative clinical skills and knowledge. 

Who is Eligible: Licensed Practical Nurses

Eligibility:

  • Nominee must have been employed by the University Medical Center for at least 6 months at the time of nomination submission.
  • Nominees must have completed their area orientation by the time of submission.
  • Nominee must be currently functioning in an LPN role.
  • Any University Medical Center employee may submit a nomination for this award.

Criteria:

A specific example must be submitted for each criterion to be considered complete. These examples should have occurred within the last 12 months and be written as narratives or stories consistent with the award criteria. Any clinical acts referenced must be consistent with policies and procedures outlined by UVA Health University Medical Center. 

Written nominations should demonstrate:

  • CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Demonstrates current clinical knowledge and uses skills applicable to role and practice settings to enhance quality care and patient safety. 
  • EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND EXCEPTIONAL TEAMWORK: Displays excellent communication skills with patients, families, as well as other members of the health care team. Maintains collaborative working relationships with colleagues. Contributes to a positive work environment.
  • PATIENT ADVOCACY AND PROBLEM SOLVING: Responds to difficult and/or unexpected situations and proactively identifies solutions. Promotes resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability in patient care to drive positive outcomes.
