Academic Progression Milestone Tool

To support your goal of achieving a BSN degree, the Nursing Retention Program developed the Academic Progression Milestone Tool.

This tool will help you map out application and enrollment dates, classes, credits and graduations to ensure you meet your goal in a timely matter.  It is encouraged to use academic counselors if available to you, to help lay out a plan following the academic program. Be sure to consider work schedules and academic program start dates, as each program is unique.  Confirm or update this tool with your progress until you graduate.

This tool will support and encourage clear communication between you and your Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager to help them support you.  This Milestone Tool documents the agreed upon steps and expectations necessary to complete your BSN degree within the time requirement between you and your Manager/ANM. The tool will also be utilized to create your annual Professional Development goal until you successfully graduate.

Steps for using the Milestone Tool:

• Review your BSN degree completion date (if required within five  years of hire)
• Explore nursing programs and pre-requisite needs
• Fill out tool to include items such as:
  • Application due dates, program starting dates, specific classes, credits and graduations dates
  • Tool is an editable PDF, so you can fill it out on the computer
  • Consider completing tool with academic counselor if available
• Meet with your Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager to review your Milestone Tool
  • Within six months of hire with initial tool
  • During Performance Appraisals
  • Goal Alignment Touchpoint at the mid-year point
• Sign and upload Milestone Tool to your Workday profile until BSN degree completed

Managers / Assistant Nurse Managers:

• Meet with Clinicians to review their Milestone Tool
  • Within six months of hire with initial tool
  • During Performance Appraisals
  • Goal Alignment Touchpoint at the mid-year point
