In 2024, Nursing Professional Development Services (NPDS) created Northridge Nursing Professional Development to support new hires during onboarding. To further your growth and leadership within UVA Health, we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to become a Northridge Clinical Instructor. This facility provides hands-on learning opportunities for new hires. For an overview of facility operations, please view this video.
Your Role as a Northridge Clinical Instructor
Northridge Clinical Instructors will be utilizing teaching and nursing skills to validate foundational competencies for new hires. Each clinical instructor will teach 4-6 new hires at a time in a simulated learning environment. Instructor guides for each competency are provided below:
- Infection Control and Prevention
- Sharps Safety
- Vital Signs
- 12 Lead ECG
- Emergency Response and Zoll Defibrillator
- GE Monitor
- POCT and Capillary Stick
- Healthcare Acquired Infection Prevention and Chlorhexidine Treatment
- Specimen Collection and Labeling
- Aspiration Precautions and Oxygen
- HAPI Prevention
- Medication Administration and Hazardous Drug Waste Safety
- Wound Care
Time Commitment & Support
Regular practice will help to sustain expertise and comfort in the content (4 hour or 8-hour options available Monday-Wednesday every other week).
NPDS will assist Northridge Clinical Instructors in determining topics they will teach. Clinical Instructors will be oriented to the role, including utilization of instructor guides. Instructors will have opportunities to practice presenting topics to enhance comfort and achieve independence.
