Roles and Responsibilities
RN
Establish an Academic Progression plan to successfully achieve BSN degree within required time.
- Develop and maintain an Academic Progression Milestone Tool to ensure pre-requisites and BSN program can be achieved within 5 years.
- Be sure to account for enrollment and start dates.
- Apply for educational assistance if eligible.
- Meet twice a year with Manager/ANM (annual performance appraisal and mid-year check-in). You may meet more frequently as needed.
- Provide proof of academic progression with evidence of course completion such as written evidence of enrollment (acceptance letter), progress report (transcripts), and program completion (diploma, transcripts).
- Confirm/update the Academic Progression Milestone Tool.
New Hires are expected to have a Milestone Tool established within 6 months of hire.
If a Clinician 1, submit Academic Progression plan along with Clinician 2 advancement portfolio.
When BSN degree is completed, update degree data into personal profile in order to initiate verification of degree through Human Resources.
Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager
If a new nurse, incorporate discussion of employee’s education plan into existing new hire orientation check point meetings (on-boarding). New hires are expected to have a Milestone Tool established by 6 months of employment.
Meet with nurse twice a year at a minimum, including annual performance appraisal and mid-year check-in, to discuss and coach employee until BSN degree is achieved.
- Ask about pre-requisites, enrollment date, anticipated completion date, type of program, class schedule.
- "What support do you need from me to complete your educational requirements?"
Documentation:
- Verify that Academic Progression Milestone Tool is confirmed/updated.
- Work with RN to upload Milestone Tool into Workday for tracking.
- Validate proof of academic progression with evidence of course completion such as written evidence of enrollment (acceptance letter), progress report (transcripts), and program completion (diploma, transcripts).
If a Clinician 1, nurse is to submit their education plan along with their advancement portfolio.
With Director, review BSN Academic Progression plans twice a year (minimum).
For extenuating circumstances: Consult Employee Relations as needed, such as BSN program expected completions beyond 5 year deadline or adjusted deadlines due to approved leave of absences.
Director
Touch base with Managers/ANMs on status of BSN Academic Progression twice a year (minimum)..
Support Managers regarding staffing/scheduling needs.
