In-the-Moment Peer Review

Leveraging Peer Review
to Build a Culture of
Respect, Safety and Civility

As healthcare professionals, we engage in several forms of peer review – one of them being informal peer review, or in-the-moment. While it is a professional responsibility and expectation, it can sometimes feel challenging or intimidating to build skill and comfort with providing professional, clear and respectful feedback that is human-focused and constructive.

The NPGO Professional Development Committee reviewed the literature and identified Cognitive Rehearsal and Scripting as an evidence-based tool to build confidence, skill and willingness to participate in informal peer review.
